Activities:

2013 – 2014      

A poster presentation competition was organized by the Department of Chemistry on 17th December 2013. The competition focused on the topic “Recent Trends in Drug Development”. The Chief Guest appreciated the wonderful work of the students and evaluated them based on their creativity, presentation skill, subject relation and explanation.

An invitee talk was given by Mr. S. Mannathan M.Sc., Ph.D. on the topic “Transition – Metal Catalyzed Cyclization of 1, n – Enynes” on 7th Jan. 2014. The speaker Mr. S. Mannathan M.Sc., Ph.D. is a post doctoral Research fellow in National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan who is also a former student of the chemistry department of St. Joseph’s College.

An invitee talk was also given by Dr. L. Sivachandiran, Post doctoral Researcher, Department chime et Environment Mines Douai, France on the topic Evaluation of the safety Assessment of photo catalytic indoor air treatment systems on 21st Jan. 2014.

2014 – 2015

        The inauguration of chemistry association was held on 1st August 2014. Rev. Fr. Secretary presided over the function and delivered the presidential address. In his presidential address, he insisted on the importance of scientific and research attitude. Dr. V. Periyanayagasamy, Controller of Examinations and Head of the department led the Chief Guest for his key note address. Dr. Kathiresan, Chief Guest gave a presentation on Supramolecular Chemistry for Shift I. He explained the impact, scope and opportunity of research in Supramolecules. Mr. Harinarayanan, Chief Guest delivered a key note address on “Opportunities in the field of chemistry” for Shift II. He explained the scope, and the job opportunities available in various chemical industries.

        PG & Research department of chemistry in association with PG & Research department of Biochemistry and PG & Research department of Microbiology organized an invitee talk. Inspiring felicitation addresses were given by Rev. Fr. Administrator, Rev. Fr. Dean of Studies, The Principal, and The Controller of examinations. Mr. Joseph Christian Daniel, Head, Department of Microbiology, gave the introductory speech on proteomics. Dr. V. Periyanayagasamy, Controller of Examinations and Head of the department led the Chief Guest for his key note address. Mr. Nandakumar, Chief Guest gave a presentation on “Proteomics”. He explained the impact, scope, opportunities of research in India and in foreign countries.

 2015 – 2016

The Chemistry Association was inaugurated on 15th July, 2015 by Mr.M.Ramesh, Business Manager, Chromatography and Mass Spectrum, Gulf Bio Analytical, Dubai. A Poster presentation was conducted on 25th August, 2015. A Quiz Competition was conducted on 8th September, 2015. A Guest Lecture was arranged on 12th August, 2015. Dr.L.Sivachandiran, PDF, University d Orleans, France inspired the students to pursue their higher education in India and abroad. The Department organised a National Workshop on Modern Methods in Organic Synthesis (MMOS’16) on 16th and 17th of February to enlighten the students in the field of Synthetic Organic Chemistry.
