Profile of the Departments

The Department started functioning on the 14th July 1993. The criterion for establishing the History department was the judicious blending of the Humanities with scientific studies should be necessary course requirement for all students. The academic achievements of our students are excellent every year. They secured 100 percent results in the University examinations till April 1999.

Vision:

The Vision of the department is the formation of whole man intellectually alert, morally upright, religious oriented, socially conscious, culturally distinct and nationally integrated.

Mission:

Creating a well constructed nation with a strong foundation in students and transforming them as pillars of the building.

Activities:

2013 – 2014

Association Inauguration was held on 26.09.2013.

Department of History conducted a one day guest lecture programme on “History in our lives” on 2^nd January 2014.

2014 -2015

Mr. M. Sethuraman Assistant Professor, Periyar Arts College, Cuddalore, gave a talk on values of history and inspired the students on the inauguration of the association on 24th August 2014.

Tamil Nadu History Congress 21st Annual Session was organized on 26th, 27th and 28th September 2014 under the auspices of St. Joseph’s College of Arts & Science in the areas of Political and Administrative History, Archeology, Art and Cultural History and Historiography, Scholars from different parts of India
gathered and presented papers on various topics. Welcome address was delivered by Dr. S. Chinnappan,
H.O.D and Principal of the College. Inaugural address was given by Dr. G. Viswanathan, Vice–Chancellor,
Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University, Chennai in the presence of our Secretary Rev. Fr. G. Peter Rajendiram, General Secretary Dr. N. Rajendiran, General Secretary TNHC, Dean, Faculty of Arts, Professor and Head , Department of History, Bharathidhasan University, Tiruchirapalli. As Hallmark of congress a book “PANDYAS” written by Dr.S.Chinnappan, and proceedings of the congress were released.

On 31st January 2015 a symposium on “History of a Colonial City Cuddalore: It’s Polity, Trade and Heritage” was organised.
