Profile of the department:
The Post Graduate Department of Social Work was established in the year 2012 - 13 with the aim of providing quality education in social work. T he department strives to form the future social work professionals by providing them periodical exposure to the fields and opportunities to practice what they learn in the class rooms.
Commitment:
As a whole, the PG Department of Social
Work, is committed to provide high quality education and training in social
work and in related disciplines at postgraduate levels. In order to achieve
this aim, the Department places important emphasis on seeking academic
excellence while at the same time encourages scholars in the department to
participate and contribute by means of research, training and consultation to
the different professional community in Tamil Nadu. As a relatively small
department, we see the importance of collegiality and team work and therefore
seek to foster good community spirit among colleagues and between scholars and
students. The Department is committed to whole person education goals and the
holistic philosophy of higher education.
Aim:
The programme aims at preparing students for reflective professional practice in social work.
Vision:
Strengthening Human Relationships and Promoting Social Justice by deepening the Social Insights, Concerns and Commitment of the Students of Social Work to create a World with Peace, Harmony and Love.
Mission:
To educate the students
from Rural Background, to acquire the Professional knowledge, attitudes, and
skills essential for Social Work Practice by integrating Professional Ethics
with basic Human Values and Dignity.
Practice Based
Curriculum:
The
curriculum of MSW has three important components - theory, fieldwork and
research. Theoretical knowledge on social work is being imparted in the class
rooms. Field work is a unique component in which students get opportunity in
the field to put into practice their learning in the class rooms. Students are
also encouraged to focus on research by small tasks related to research such as
baseline survey and data entry in SPSS based on the need solicited from
governmental or non-governmental organizations.
